Penshurst
Place and Gardens
Reduced entrance to Penshurst Place
and Gardens, normally £8.50 CSSC members £7.50.
Visit Penshurst park and you will find one of the 50 Great British Trees in the country, the Sidney Oak which is reputed to be 1,000 years old. It was named after the 16th century poet Sir Philip Sidney who was born here. Henry VIII owned Penshurst Place and used it as his hunting lodge to court Anne Boleyn at nearby Hever Castle The Sidney family related to Percy Bysshe Shelley the Romantic poet, and to the Churchills through the Spencer family The gardens are one of the finest examples of Elizabethan design in the country.
